China just entered the American smartphone game. Lenovo just bought Google's Motorola division, which makes phones like the Moto X, for about $3 billion. However, Google will still retain "ownership of the vast majority of the Motorola Mobility patent portfolio," said Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside. The deal will certainly set off alarms in Washington over the potential for Chinese surveillance: Lenovo's bid for an IBM unit is likely to trigger a security review.
