China May Be Building Database on U.S.

In the wake of a massive breach of millions of federal workers’ personal information, U.S. officials and analysts say China may be building a database of Americans’ personal information. The goal of such a database would apparently be espionage: gathering information about government personnel and potential spies to recruit. “This is part of their strategic goal—to increase their intelligence collection via big-data theft and big-data aggregation,” a U.S. government official told the Washington Post. “It’s part of a strategic plan.” China has dismissed the U.S.’s hacking claims as “irresponsible and unscientific.”
