In a significant shift from its longtime policy of non-interference in African conflicts, China will send 700 combat troops to South Sudan. The troops will take part in a UN peacekeeping mission. They will be equipped with drones, armored carriers, antitank missiles, mortars, and other weapons. China has invested heavily in South Sudan, and a civil war there has cut oil production by a third.
