China’s Xinhua news agency slammed U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday for calling China a currency manipulator. In a piece published in English, Xinhua called Romney’s words “ironic” because “a considerable portion of this China-battering politician’s wealth was actually obtained by doing business with Chinese companies before he entered politics.” Romney has repeatedly said he would have tougher policies regarding China, while President Obama has accused Romney’s former company, equity firm Bain Capital, of outsourcing jobs to China and India.
