The family of Shanann Watts, the pregnant woman murdered by her husband, are suing Christopher Watts for her wrongful death. The lawsuit was filed on November 19, the same day Watts was handed three consecutive life sentences for the murders of Shanann and their two daughters. Under Colorado law, the wrongful death claim seeks compensation for the ongoing emotional distress that resulted from the death of Shanann, her daughters Bella and Celeste, and her unborn child, Nico. Steven Lambert, one of the family’s attorneys, told a local TV station that the lawsuit also hopes to prevent Watts from profiting off of the case in the future by writing a book about the murders or selling the family’s home. Earlier this month, Watts pleaded guilty to killing his family at their Denver home and dumping their bodies.
