John Galliano debuted his latest collection for Christian Dior on Saturday night—but he couldn’t have been further from Paris. Instead, the Cruise 2011 collection graced the runway in Shanghai. “[China is an] emerging market and a big player in the field and very thirsty to understand couture,” Galliano told WWD. And, according to the publication, he showcased a collection inspired by French New Wave cinema to appeal to China’s big spenders. Dior’s go-to girls, Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard, traveled to Shanghai for the event—and singer Kelis performed at the after party. The brand has reportedly seen “very strong double-digit" growth in China.
