Lawrence Wilkerson, the former chief of staff to Colin Powell at the State Department, claims that the British territory of Diego Garcia was used by the CIA as “a transit site where people were temporarily housed, let us say, and interrogated from time to time.” According to Wilkerson, the Indian Ocean atoll was used for “nefarious practices” including holding prisoners for weeks at a time. The British government has recently faced increasing pressure about making a full disclosure about its involvement in CIA torture programs.
