The Inglewood City Council unanimously approved plans for a $2 billion NFL stadium, backed by St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke, signaling the football team’s possible return to the Los Angeles area after 20 years. In a 5-0 vote, the council cleared the way for construction to begin at the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack without calling a public vote or undergoing an environmental review. The plan includes a 60-acre, 80,000-seat stadium along with residential and commercial space. The vote comes after the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers proposed a shared stadium if their hometowns do not update their current stadiums. Construction is slated to begin at the end of the year to prepare for the 2018 football season.
