Secretary of State Hillary Clinton unexpectedly landed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, a day after making a surprise visit to Libya. Clinton will be meeting with President Hamid Karzai and top leaders tomorrow in an effort to encourage peace talks with the Taliban. Previous efforts to lure insurgent Taliban fighters away from their cause have proved futile, especially after leading peace negotiator Burhanuddin Rabbani was killed, reportedly by the Pakistan-based Haqqani network. Clinton also hopes to solidify an agreement on the relationship between Afghanistan and the U.S. after most American troops are removed by 2015.
