The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has finally made it to the major leagues. The three-day concert, which began Friday, sold out all 75,000 passes in advance, a first ever for the 11-year-old event. Its popularity turned into a logistical nightmare for music lovers though, with waits up to three hours to simply get into the venue. But once the music got going, the lineup seemed to calm disgruntled attendees, with big opening-night acts from Jay-Z, Coachella’s first hip-hop headliner, who performed alongside wife Beyonce. Indie band LCD Soundsystem also made it to the main stage, along with early ‘80s British Ska band the Specials and Passion Pit. Saturday’s lineup includes Camera Obscura, MGMT, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
