After a proposal to change the curriculum to promote patriotism and downplay civil disobedience triggered protests, a suburban Denver school board voted on Thursday night to review the curriculum. The board voted 3 to 2 to a new review committee that will include students, parents, and administrators. The board oversees Colorado's second-largest school district. Over the past few weeks, protests have led to students from 17 high schools in the system leaving en masse. The school board had proposed course plans that "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights" and don't "encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law." That language has now been stripped.
