Comedian Avoids Prison for Hebdo Remark

A controversial French comedian received a two-month suspended sentence Tuesday for a Facebook post claiming that he felt like “Charlie Coulibaly” after attacks on Charlie Hebdo. Dieudonné M’bala M’bala’s post merged “Je Suis Charlie” with the name of Amedy Coulibaly, the hostage-taker who killed four Jews at a French kosher supermarket. Prosecutors originally requested a 200-day suspended sentence for the entertainer known as Dieudonné, coupled with a €30,000 fine, for inciting hatred and being an apologist for terrorism.
