Condé Nast—the publishing company that includes Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Vogue, and 15 other magazines—has signed a tentative deal to move to Ground Zero, according to two real estate executives, The New York Times reports. The proposed 1,776-foot-tall skyscraper, which is called “1 World Trade Center,” will be the tallest building in New York upon its completion in 2013. If the deal goes through, Condé Nast would move from its current home in Times Square in 2014. The company notified its employees by memo Tuesday, saying it was in “active negotiations” to move to the new location, but that a final decision was months away. The news is quite a coup for the $3.2 billion building that, after years of delay, is finally rising into the New York City skyline. “A Condé Nast move would… be the vanguard of a broader shift of creative companies from Midtown to the south,” Carl Weisbrod, who helped revive both Times Square in the 1980s and, more recently, Lower Manhattan, told the newspaper.
