The best beach in the country is about as far away as you can get from Hawaii or California. According to Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman's 20th annual list, the top bit of sandy coastline is Coopers Beach in Southampton, New York. Leatherman’s criteria include: water temperature, sand softness, number of waves, smells, and the presence of jellyfish. The factor he did not take into account is the $40 parking fee at Coopers. Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida came in second followed by Coronado Beach in San Diego, California.
