A police officer in Oregon has reportedly been placed on paid leave after making controversial Facebook posts about the Black Lives Matter movement. Tom Newberry, who has worked for the Linn Police Department for seven years, posted comments that appeared to encourage violence against Black Lives Matter protesters, local media reported late Thursday. In one such post, about protesters blocking a road, Newberry reportedly commented that drivers should respond by accelerating at the protesters. An investigation into Newberry’s conduct is underway.
