Police in Florida who responded to an April accident in which a Honduran immigrant was hit by a truck first demanded citizenship information before attending to the man’s injuries. In an exchange apparently caught on the body cameras of officers who responded from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, police first asked the injured man “You illegal? Are you a legal citizen or no? Speak English? You got ID? Passport, visa, or what?” according to footage obtained by Univision. Marcos Antonio Huete, 31 years old, was on his bicycle in Key West when he was reportedly hit by a GMC pickup truck on his way to work. Hours after the accident, Huete is said to have left the hospital on crutches and then was taken to the Krome Detention Center, where he has spent a month in custody and faces deportation.
