A non-lethal Monday morning explosion in Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal was the result of a failed pipe bomb, authorities said. The crude device, carried by a man identified as Akayed Ullah, was reportedly constructed from a pipe, battery, and matches. When the device was activated, one or both ends burst off, but the pipe did not explode into shrapnel, The New York Times reported. The unsuccessful explosion injured Ullah, but did not result in any deaths.
