Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said in a Wednesday morning press conference that officers told Keith Lamont Scott several times to drop his gun before they shot and killed him. Putney said the 43-year-old did not comply and instead emerged from the vehicle with the weapon. Officers, he said, immediately asked for medical help and performed CPR on Scott. A woman who claimed to be Scott’s daughter posted a Facebook video from the scene on Tuesday arguing that her father was reading a book and was unarmed when he was killed. Putney said on Wednesday that the woman’s claim was false and that a handgun was recovered, and that there was no book found. It was unclear Wednesday if the woman is actually related to Scott.
