Court Kills Virginia School’s Trans Bathroom Rule

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that a Virginia high school’s policy barring a transgender student from using the boys’ bathroom is unconstitutional. The case originated from 16-year-old Gavin Grimm—who was born female but identifies as male—who was banned from using the boy’s restroom after parents complained in 2014. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the Gloucester County School Board’s rules after a federal judge had previously rejected Grimm’s sex-discrimination suit.
