Police in Kuwait used tear gas and stun guns to beat back crowds protesting a new electoral law Sunday. Opposition members have called the changes, which alter the number of candidates allowed per district, a “constitutional coup” by the government. The change comes as the ruling Sabah family is locked in a protracted power struggle with Parliament, and opposition members quickly called the protests Sunday in which 11 policemen were wounded. Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said the demonstrators had gathered in violation of a law banning marches.
