Breaking his silence during an exclusive one-hour special with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown, expressed a “clean conscience” and a plan to move forward with “a normal life.” Wilson claimed Brown made the first move, slamming the police car door’s shut before attempting to grab Wilson’s gun. “It was like a 5-year-old against Hulk Hogan,” Wilson said of Brown, whom the officer described as a “very large, very powerful man.”

After a chase on foot, Wilson said he fired at Brown, who was “charging” at him. According to Wilson, Brown was hit multiple times but continued to charge. Wilson fired the fatal shot from about 8 feet away, he said. “I know I did what was right,” Wilson responded when asked if he had a clean conscience or if his actions would haunt him. “I don’t think it’s a haunting, but it’s always going to be something that happened.” Wilson assured Stephanopoulos that he would have acted the same way if Brown were white.
