David S. Broder, 81, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for The Washington Post who reported on every presidential campaign since the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon race, died Wednesday in Arlington of complications from diabetes. Broder was informally referred to as the "Dean" of the Washington press corps and the "unofficial chairman of the board" by many political writers. Broder won the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Commentary in 1973 for his coverage of Nixon's Watergate scandal. He authored eight books, and appeared on NBC's Meet the Press over 400 times—more than any other person besides the program's panelists.
