If there’s one conservative commentator you’d expect to stand up for Newt Gingrich, it would be the New York Times’s David Brooks. But in his column today, Brooks says that while he agrees with Gingrich’s center-right ideology, he can’t get past the candidate’s bombastic style and uneven temperament. “He has every negative character trait that conservatives associate with 60’s excess: narcissism, self-righteousness, self-indulgence and intemperance. He just has those traits in Republican form.”
