David Lachapelles new show

REFERENTIAL

David LaChapelle opens a new solo show this week, rife with heavy themes, and his standard bursting palette.

Paul Kasmin will put on American Jesus, which will feature works by the ultimate collagist of glamour. Michael Jackson and Naomi Campbell are two of LaChapelle’s subjects, juxtaposed among items and themes of religion, mass consumption, and, in one of the most striking pieces of the same name, the rape of Africa. In an enlightening twist, sketches of the finished works are also displayed.
