Even the mayor is not above the law. Vincent Gray, the mayor of Washington, D.C., was arrested on his own turf Monday when he joined a Capitol Hill protest against Congress’ most recent budget deal. Gray and his fellow protesters were arguing for the right of the District to spend its own money on providing abortion services to poor women, which this weekend’s 11th-hour budget agreement bans. The mayor wrote on Twitter Monday, “I am calling on all residents of DC to join us NOW at the Hart Senate Office Building to stand for our freedom!” He was arrested along with 40 others for unlawful assembly.
