Washington D.C. workers could be eligible for paid parental and sick leave, under a new bill passed in D.C. Council on Tuesday. The bill, passed on a 9-4 vote, would allow eight weeks of paid parental leave, six weeks of paid sick leave to care for family, and two weeks of personal sick leave. The program, which applies to workers in private companies, will be funded by an increase to the city's payroll tax. The bill still requires approval from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, who has indicated that she would support the legislation.
