Ohio prosecutors announced Friday that they may consider pursuing the death penalty for Ariel Castro, the Cleveland man accused of holding Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus captive for a decade. “The horrific brutality that the victims endured is beyond comprehension,” said prosecutor Timothy McGinty. “The law of Ohio calls for the death penalty for those most depraved criminals who commit aggravated murder during the course of a kidnapping,” he continued. While Castro, 52, currently faces only four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape, a leaked police report exposing grisly details of forced miscarriages suggests he may face hundreds more.
