Just before Ohio death row prisoner Billy Slagle was due to be put under pre-execution watch, he was found hanged in his cell on Sunday morning. The 44-year-old was to be executed on Wednesday for the stabbing death of Mari Anne Pope when he was 18 years old. Recently, a prosecutor in Cleveland asked the Ohio Parole Board to spare Slagle, saying he was unlikely to be sentenced to death in a court today, but the request was denied, and so was a plea for a new trial and a stay of his execution.
