Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is being vetted for a possible vice presidential position with Hillary Clinton, echoed an inflammatory statement made by Sen. Chris Murphy earlier the day. She tweeted Monday that "Republicans have decided to sell weapons to ISIS" because of their opposition to some of the gun control measures that are set to be voted on this evening. "ISIS has decided that the assault weapon is the new airplane, and Republicans, in refusing to close the terror gap, refusing to pass bans on assault weapons, are allowing these weapons to get in the hands of potential lone-wolf attackers" Murphy added earlier in the day. "We've got to make this connection and make it in very stark terms."
Murphy staged a 15-hour filibuster on the Senate floor last week in an attempt to secure the votes on four amendments on expanding background checks and barring those on terror watch lists from purchasing firearms. None of the measures are expected to receivie the necessary 60 votes in order to pass.
