Deputies Charged in Inmate ‘Fight Club’

‘GLADIATOR-STYLE’

S.F. officials would gather to watch the combat.

Prosecutors have charged two San Francisco deputies and a former deputy with helping create a “fight club” in which jail inmates beat each other in “gladiator-style” combat while guards watched, the Los Angeles Times reported. A district attorney said the operation damaged “the moral authority of law enforcement.” Officials said, “Subjecting inmates who are in the care and custody of the state to degrading and inhumane treatment makes a mockery of our justice system.” The investigation began after the father of one of the inmates complained to the public defender’s office.
