After 42 days of no new measles cases related to the outbreak at Disneyland over the winter, California officials have declared the outbreak over. At least 131 people were infected with measles in California, as well as 25 in other states, Canada, and Mexico. “We are pleased this outbreak is over, but caution that measles can be reintroduced in California at any time when an infected person brings it to the state,” said Dr. Karen Smith, director of the California Department of Public Health. Since it takes 21 days for a person infected with the disease to show symptoms, an outbreak can be declared after 42 days of no new illnesses.
