It’s official: Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned late Wednesday night as the head of the International Monetary Fund. Strauss-Kahn, who faces seven charges of sexual assault in New York after allegedly attacking a hotel maid, made a statement saying his resignation is with “infinite sadness,” but he needed to devote “all my energy into proving my innocence.” “To all, I want to say that I deny with the greatest possible firmness all the allegations that have been made against me,” he said in a statement. It was not immediately clear who would replace Strauss-Kahn at the head of the IMF, although earlier reports had put French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde as the most likely successor.
