The candidate who, during the Republican primary, spent a good deal of his campaign rallies citing polls that placed him ahead of his GOP rivals, is now quick to dismiss polling as meaningless. During an interview with local CBS affiliate WGME before an event in Portland, Maine, on Thursday, Donald Trump was asked if a new Fox News poll that puts him 10 points behind Hillary Clinton nationwide is “concerning” to him in any way. “No, it’s very, very early and I think we’re going to do very well,” Trump said, before pivoting to the campaign’s contrasting positions on taxes and immigration. As of Thursday evening, FiveThirtyEight’s general-election forecast gives Clinton a 79.9 percent chance of winning the presidency, her highest percentage in more than two months.
