Don't Count on Mayor Rahm

Chicago

There's no front-runner, says William Daley.

It won't be easy for Rahm Emanuel should he decide to quit the White House and run in Chicago to replace departing Mayor Richard M. Daley. "I don't think there's such a thing as a frontrunner," Daley's brother William, a former U.S. commerce secretary and White House intimate told Bloomberg. For one thing, the Rod Blagojevich mess is likely to trouble Rahm. For another, he's unlikely to be the only dog in the fight: The list of possible contenders includes Lisa Madigan, the attorney general who the Obama camp wanted to run for U.S. Senate, and Alderman Scott Waguespack. "I think there will be a lot of candidates," Richard Daley said when he announced his retirement Tuesday. "This is the best job in America."
