The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has a bone to pick with Crossroads GPS, Americans for Prosperity, and the 60 Plus Associations. All of these conservative donor groups enjoy status as 501(c)(4) organizations, which means they are not required to concede their donor’s identities provided their primary focus is not politically based. However, Crossroads GPS recently spent $25 million on an anti-Obama ad, and the DSCC claims that “by operating in secret, they have violated and continue to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act.” James L. Martin, head of 60 Plus, retorted, “They need to stop whining about trying to achieve with lawyers what they can’t in the arena of public opinion.” It is speculated that the Federal Elections Commission will not take action until after the 2012 election.
