After learning that her husband, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was accused of attempted rape, Anne Sinclair “howled in pain, a long moan, like a stunned animal,” according to the French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur. The story comes from a new biography of Sinclair, which includes an account of her actions on May 14, the day of the alleged incident at the Sofitel hotel in New York. Apparently, she was preparing to attend a surprise party for the singer Patrick Bruel when Strauss-Kahn called her with a “serious problem" and—without telling her what had happened—asked for his personal adviser. Sinclair did not learn of the allegations until several hours later, as she took a taxi home from the party. She quickly went into hiding, and a friend who contacted her says she was so distraught she could not form words.
