Dying Civilians Trapped in Mosul Battle

The slow painful battle to oust ISIS from their Iraqi stronghold of Mosul is forcing military officials to second guess their strategy of asking the city’s civilian residents to stay at home and wait out the fighting. More and more innocents have been caught in the crossfire or deliberately targeted by ISIS fighters. After six weeks of battle, there is no end in sight and the Iraqi military is reluctant to bring in the heavy weaponry which would defeat ISIS for fear of killing civilians in even greater numbers. There are fears that a mass evacuation at this stage would leave the residents of Mosul even more vulnerable.
