EBay founder Pierre Omidayer will be funding Glenn Greenwald in his “new media venture,” they announced on Wednesday. Greenwald, who shot to international fame when he published leaks from NSA contractor Edward Snowden this summer, announced Tuesday he would be quitting the Guardian, where he blogged. Greenwald said Tuesday that he will still be based in Rio de Janerio, but the new venture will have outposts in New York, Washington, and San Francisco. His partner on the Snowden project, Laura Poitras, is also reportedly on board, along with journalist Jeremy Schaill. Omidyar, 46, has a net worth of an estimated $8.5 billion—and is funding the project out of his own pocket.
