Egypt Cabinet Quits Over Crackdown

Fed up with a violent crackdown on protests, Egypt’s cabinet ministers have submitted their resignations en masse, state television reported on Monday. Clashes have continued for the third day, with demonstrators taking to Tahrir Square to speak out against a perceived clampdown on power by the ruling military junta in the run-up to parliamentary elections. Response to the protests was violent, with security forces leaving at least 33 dead and 1,500 injured over the weekend. Egypt’s culture minister, Emad Abu Ghazi, was the first to quit on Monday. Cabinet members said they wouldn’t leave immediately; resignations have not yet been accepted.
