Egypt Cuts Ties with Syria

A day after the United States shifted its policy on Syria and agreed to arm Sunni rebels, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi says he has cut all diplomatic relations with Damascus and is demanding that Hezbollah leave the war-torn country. Egypt's ruling Muslim Brotherhood also called for jihad against President Assad and his Shiite allies. The conflict in Syria has devolved into a civil war between ethnic and religious groups that is increasingly drawing in other middle east nations as well as global jihadists—a war that the Brotherhood accuses the Shiite minority of starting. Morsi is expected to make a speech on Saturday where he might give Egyptians his blessing to go and fight.
