The general behind the downfall of Mohamed Morsi, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, declared his candidacy for the Egyptian presidency on Wednesday. Sisi, who is expected to win easily, stated in a televised address, “I am here before you humbly stating my intention to run for the presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Only your support will grant me this great honor.” He also vowed to use his time in office to fight growing militant attacks, promising to “fight every day for an Egypt free of fear and terrorism.”
