Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman wanted not only to make a biopic of his life – he reportedly met with Sean Penn – but he also wanted to write his own memoir, according to New Yorker staff writer Patrick Radden Keefe. In 2014, a Guzman family lawyer asked Keefe, who had twice written an article about Guzman for The New Yorker, to collaborate with Guzman on his memoir. Keefe said no, fearing legal repercussions.
