Popular Egypt opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei gave a dire warning on Twitter Thursday, warning, “Egypt will explode,” and calling for army intervention. ElBaradei was speaking after a national address from President Mubarak, who announced that he would cling to office until September elections despite widespread reports that he would step down. Huge jubilant crowds, expecting his resignation, gathered in downtown Cairo. But they quickly turned angry and vowed to gather in larger numbers on Friday and march to the presidential palace. Vice President Suleiman, who had been given new powers by Mubarak, told the crowds to “ go home.”
