The same woman under investigation for helping two murderers break out of the prison where she worked was the subject of an earlier investigation an alleged relationship with one of them. The Wall Street Journal cites a source who says the New York Department of Corrections looked into whether Joyce Mitchell and David Sweat were acquaintances but found there wasn't enough evidence to support the allegation. Nevertheless, Sweat was reassigned from the tailoring shop where Mitchell worked after the investigation. Reports this week claim a female worker gave an electric saw and sledgehammer to the men to help them escape. Several other news organizations reported Wednesday that law enforcement believes Mitchell agreed to be the getaway driver for the prisoners (and her phone called their associates) but got cold feet.
