European Union states approved an action plan for Turkey on Thursday in an effort to bring Europe’s migrant crisis under control. Officials agreed to shell out around $3.4 billion in aid and fast-track access to visas for Turks wanting to visit the EU’s borderless Schengen Area in exchange for stemming the tide of migrants entering Europe. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the EU also agreed to a “new chapter” in talks over Turkey joining the bloc. The announcement comes after an Afghan man was reportedly fatally shot while trying to enter Bulgaria from Turkey late Thursday. He was part of a “large group” of migrants trying to cross the border, AFP reported
