EU Protests Google Privacy Rules

Though authorities in the European Union say that Google’s new privacy plan may break the law, the search engine giant is forging ahead with plans to implement its streamlined rules Thursday. A French data watchdog agency sent Google a letter Feb. 27 protesting the new plan, which will simplify about 60 different privacy plans into one, saying that it would begin an investigation of the policy’s application in Europe. The rules slated to go into effect Thursday will apply for all Google services, including YouTube and Gmail.
