The European Union announced on Sunday that it will “urgently review” its relationship with Egypt, which started to return to normal Sunday after the army strictly enforced a curfew on Saturday night. More than 800 people have died since Wednesday, when clashes between the army and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi began. In a joint statement, the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council said the calls for democracy and human rights “cannot be disregarded, much less washed away in blood.” Meanwhile, Egypt’s cabinet will hold emergency meetings on Sunday to discuss the fate of the Muslim Brotherhood, Morsi’s party whose members have been the subject of the bloody crackdown. Cairo was a ghost town on Saturday night after the bloodiest week in the country’s history.
