Former Baylor University defensive end Shawn Oakman was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on one count of sexual assault. The 24-year-old former athlete is accused of raping a student at his residence in early April. The rape allegation helped bring to light the university administration’s rampant disregard for complaints against its athletes, and eventually led to the resignation of school chancellor Kenneth Starr.
