GOP’s Roemer will announce bid in Baton Rouge Thursday.

Someone’s got to fill the void left by John Thune, and Buddy Roemer thinks he’s the one. Roemer, a former Democrat, served as a representative from Louisiana and then governor, but left office after losing the 1991 GOP gubernatorial primary to former Ku Klux Klan bigwig David Duke. Whatever struggles Roemer might face from lack of name recognition, he intends to hit the ground running—heading to Iowa for a social conservative convention on Monday.
