Experts issued a note of caution on Tuesday over the use of an experimental Ebola medicine that has shown promise in monkeys but never tested on humans. The drugs were given to two American aid workers while in Liberia who had fallen ill, and patient advocates have been calling for the drug to be made widely available to hundreds of sick West Africans. The drug, ZMapp, is a cocktail of three different antibodies that seem to prevent the Ebola virus from getting into a host cell. However, without the certainty of a drug trial, it would be impossible to know whether it was the drug or other treatments that saved the Americans.
